That’s a lot of travel for one day. The ferries for Martha’s Vineyard leave from Woods Hole on Cape Code or Quonett in Rhode Island. There may be another departing out of New Bedford. All of them are pretty far south of Boston, and not accesible w/out a car, to be honest.

You can take a ferry from Boston Harbor to Provincetown. It’s a 2 hour ferry ride, and no car is needed to wander around there.
